I use a wire brush Brush Suede and Suede / Nubuck Foam Cleaner and less to protect the top. Also do not forget to put sealer on the cap side of the model - you can get it in stores Birkenstock - is empty, but is about 5-10 minutes clear.
It can be ugly (although I do not believe in reality), but it is a comfort!
